Gouge Me 1 More Time
Joe just alerted me to this item on usatoday.com. As he says, “Looks like Lucas needs another influx of cash.” Great, now I have to buy the original Star Wars triology for the fourth time to get the versions I really want. I don’t know about the need for cash, but to say he didn’t change his mind is bull.

Psyched to give Lucas MORE cash? Yeah, I understand the desire to have the original flicks – untouched by Lucas’ constant ‘fixing’. But it’ll only be a year or two before he releases the “Ultimate, Super-Extended, Almost-Final Box Set” of the Star Wars flick with all that ‘lost’ Tatooine footage with Luke and his buddies put in…

Please–did you think I actually bought the Special Edition DVDs? Or the DVDs of ANY of the prequels, for that matter?
Other than toys and videogames, I haven’t given Lucas any money since that VHS set of the remastered original trilogy that came out before the SEs.

PS–so basically, once I have the original trilogy (without any Special Edition meddling) on DVD, I won’t be buying any more editions. I HATE the Special Editions and the prequels and have no interest in owning any part of them. The only thing he could release that I might buy is a set of the original trilogy without the stupid Special Editions on the discs.

Joe,
I thought giving buckets of cash to filmmakers was your charity of choice. How else do we explain the following titles on your DVD shelf:
1. Godzilla – Emmerich version
2. Armageddon
3. Disturbing Behavior
4. 18 Versions of Army of Darkness (well, #17 is different becuase they titled it Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness on the jacket.)
…and the list goes on.

on your list – I no longer own #1 and #3 (so at least I got some cash back from what I gave to them orignally) and I only own 2 of the 18 versions of AOD 🙂 I have no excuse for #2

@JFCC – I wish I had your forethought not to purchase the DVD’s, although I think I got them as a gift. Anyway, I did ask for them as I thought Lucas wouldn’t grace us with the originals on DVD. Now I’ll be stuck with one each of the original and SE on both VHS and DVD. I do own the prequels as there’s some good things in each, but overall they don’t touch the original triology.
@Joe – Since he didn’t put that stuff in the SE’s already, then I doubt he will now, unless he really did ever need the money, which seems unlikely at this point. Oh, and I’m sure that $1 back for each of those DVD’s got you real far. Should have used them as coasters.
