Kameo: Elements of Power

Kameo: Elements of Power boxAs Ed noted earlier this evening after his post within a comment on my Perfect Dark Zero review, Mook is now in the Xbox 360 fold. Well, if there was a game made for him — besides Katamari Damacy of course — then this one is it.

Kameo: Elements of Power is actually the game I have enjoyed the most to date. So, the indictment of Mook may also be one of myself. D’oh! Well, at least this game is about a cute little elf girl instead of a King and his package.

Kameo is an adventure game where you must travel throughout your kingdom in the middle of an Elf (and other odds races) v. Troll war where the Trolls are trying to take over your kingdom after having served the man for so long. Really, what&... Continue reading »

Perfect Dark Zero

Perfect Dark Zero boxWhen the first wave of Xbox 360 games, the launch titles, were announced, it was pretty much assumed that this game was going to be the 360’s Halo. The game was hyped up as the one that would sell the system and I remember Microsoft used this game as their feature in that overhyped and ultimately empty MTV special that aired just before the 2005 E3.

I haven’t played any of the previous games in the Perfect Dark series, so I can’t base this *review* of Perfect Dark Zero (PDZ) on anything other than this game. I suppose in terms of gameplay, I can compare it to Halo somewhat, so here goes…

I made it thru the training level and then the first level before I decided it wasn’t worth it. I say it wasn’t worth it not because of the game, but because the achievements just weren’t going to come. I... Continue reading »

Call of Duty 2

Call of Duty 2 boxSo, now that I am caught up with my movie *reviews* I can catch up on my Xbox 360 game *reviews.* Again, these aren’t reviews in the usual sense of the thing, they are just my observations or thoughts on the game. I guess you can still argue that makes for a review, but whatever.

You may remember that getting my Xbox 360 setup and running normally was a chore. It still isn’t quite right, but I can play games and Call of Duty 2 (CoD2) was the first one I finished. I played thru the campaign on the Hard (or Hardened) setting, which is the 3rd highest or just below Veteran (I did not play on Xbox Live at all). I did this on the advice of Ed who started his campaign on Veteran but found it impossible to finish t... Continue reading »

Happy 06.06.06 Eddie

Gotta go with Eddie on a day like today, a day like no other.

I decided last night that I wouldn’t do a tribute to Ed for his birthday, but his post on his blog this morning changed my mind. As he said, “to keep the tradition alive,” I have decided to mark his birthday with pictures, but since he’s not nearly as cute as his kids or dogs, he gets the funny treatment.

For the record, I did keep the most embarrassing two pictures from seeing the Internet. He paid enough by having to wear one on his bachelor party t-shirt.

I’m sure there will be payback in December, if not sooner… 😈

The Break-Up

The Break-Up movie posterHave you ever been smacked in the face while watching a movie?

No, I am not talking about that time your wife/girlfriend walked in on you watching… well, you know. I am talking about experiencing something being shown on the screen so closely, so clearly to situations or events from your life that it is spooky. That is this film for me.

This isn’t the first time either. No, I think the first time was while watching Swingers that first time. Spooky how Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau starred in that one as well. Oh, then there was Trainspotting, but that was only when I went toilet bowl diving for my smack.

No, seriously, Swingers and now The Break-Up. Swingers being mostly about a guy climbing out of a break-up and The Break-Up being about getting yourself into one. Other than that and the two lead actors, all similarities end there.

The Break-Up wasn’t exactly what I expected, so I suspe... Continue reading »

Helluva Party

Go and see the creepy new version of The Omen or party in a town called Hell on 6.6.06.

V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta movie poster

It might seem like I am following the Joe model on Scooby Speak; blowing my load of content all at once and taking a rest instead of pacing myself with a steady stream. That’s not the case. I am in fact trying to make up for a couple weeks earlier in May when I didn’t post much of anything. Unfortunately, I am doing so with content that is basically stale before it hits the blogosphere since these movies are long gone from the local plex.

At least with V for Vendetta, I have good reason to have not posted earlier on it. After taking in the movie, I decided I wanted to read the graphic novel so that I might understand why Alan Moore wanted his name removed from the movie, per his usual M.O. So, it took me a while to finally remember to pick up the GN and then about a week to finally get thru it, not that the reading was slow mind you. Anyway, ... Continue reading »

Mission:Impossible III

not a M:i:3 poster

A few things come to mind as I start to write this one:

  1. I am going backwards with my reviews, but I figured for completeness sake, I’d do it that way since the other one I am going to write about is V for Vendetta.
  2. Ed is starting to get me in the habit of posting pictures with my posts. I hate the two posters out there because one has too much Tom Cruise and the other has his name too big, plus it’s just a wee bit ugly. However, I decided I needed a picture! Found this one that someone did up as a wallpaper. Works better.
  3. I need to come up with some kind of format for my reviews, observations, thoughts or whatever I want to call them. Maybe I ought to tell you how I felt about it right up front and then get to the meat because I am always going to have spoilers. I’m not here to write up some fancy review that is going to dance around plot details in an effort to tell you what I think without telling you exact... Continue reading »

Office Webisodes

Funny how this week’s EW is the Summer TV Preview and all I found of interest was that The Office Webisodes are going to start on July 13. Funny because it is on the Web and not on TV.

Okay… and that’s not all I found of interest, but I don’t have HBO, so no Entourage for me…

Rotten Apple

I have been meaning to post on this for a while, I just keep forgetting. Not unusual for me.

Anyway, most folks have seen the latest ads on the telly by Apple. I guess these are version 2.0 of their famous “Switch” ads from a couple years ago. If you haven’t seen them and you are absolutely dying to know what I am talking about, then by all means go and visit the Apple web site and watch them all. I’ll patiently wait here. I got nothing better to do.

Okay, if you are reading this far, you have seen one or left and actually came back! (Thanks)

So, what did you think? How do these ads speak to you? I mean, other than the fact they want you to switch and use a Mac instead of a PC… cuz they said that, right? Did the slacker kid from NBC’s underrated series Ed — wait, wait… you are probably more familiar with his role in Dodgeball — convince you to buy a Mac? You don’t want to be that dork with the specs, right? Just cuz y... Continue reading »
