The Halo Effect
I’m sure all my gamer readers, all two of you, have already read about this, but just in case, more Halo games on the way. I wonder if the Age of Empires developer’s game will be like that where you build up a side, human or Covenant, and then try to take over. Could be good, but then again, I get bored of those types of games quickly.

The AoE devo’s game is a real-time strategy game (think AoE, WarCraft, StarCraft, Command & Conquer) – so yes, you will pick a side and go to war. Of course, with their pedigree, it will be a bit more complex than that. In essence, Halo is returning to its roots, as Bungie initially designed Halo as an RTS for the Mac. They switched gears to FPS – Microsoft acquired the property (and later Bungie) and the rest is history.
In addition to Halo Wars, there’s also Halo 3. My guess is that releases Fall 2007.
Originally, I thought they’d hold Halo 3 until 2008 (to coincide with the flick) – but yesterday also brought the announcement that Peter Jackson’s new game company (Wingnut Games – after his Wingnut Films label) will be producing another ‘chapter’ in the Halo mythos. Bungie will oversee in an ‘executive producer’ role – but Wingnut is behind the development. That lets everyone breathe a huge sigh of relief. You will get Halo 3 in 2007 as the Wingnut Halo is no doubt being primed to release alongside the movie.
The upside here is there is a lot of Halo to come in the next few years. That series’ universe has a lot of space to explore – and these multiple avenues only underscore that fact.
