I am the last person to get all fanboy on a flick (I feel directors have carte blanch in providing their own vision of source material) but one thing doesn’t sit right here.
Sandman killed Uncle Ben?
Not only does that revelation betray the source material (which as I said above – changes like that are fine with me if done within the service of the director’s interpretation) – but more importantly it betrays what we learned in this film series – an event which was pivotal in Spidey’s transformation.
I’ll withhold final judgement until I see the flick.
Also – I’m calling it now. True Venom will be a tiny part of this flick – a tease for Spidey 4.

I agree with you on being allowed an ability to do your own thing, and I think Raimi is doing it, but I don’t think he’ll have Sandman be Uncle Ben’s killer. I think it is some kind of setup or mistake, but we’ll see.
I also agree with you on Venom. We can’t have four villains in this one flick. We know Sandman is the main villain and then we have Harry Osborn as the likely minor villain, whether he’s Green Goblin or Hobgoblin, it doesn’t matter. Topher Grace is Eddie Brock, who becomes Venom, and Bruce Campbell is Quentin Beck a.k.a. Mysterio. I think they are setting up those two as the villains for the next installment.

Of course, they also have Dr. Curt Connors about and he could turn into The Lizard at any point Raimi wants to pull him out too.
