Angry Alec
I’m sorry that Alec Baldwin went off on his daughter via voice-mail and it was subsequently leaked to the press… but, why does it have to mean an end to his wonderful stint on NBC’s recently renewed 30 Rock? For all we know, he already wanted out before this happened, but if it helped nudge him, then that sux.
I watch the show for his performance alone — I am willing to bet so don’t a lot of other folks — so does NBC keep him locked knowing that fact, thus leading to bad shows, or let him out and try to replace him? When has that ever worked? If he’s out, NBC would be better off reneging on the deal.
UPDATE: A comment is brewing from me, but I figured I’d post a follow up that E! has posted about Baldwin’s appearance on The View and some stuff that Dr. Phil guy had to say on the matter…

One of things he said as support for his desire to leave the show was, he did not want this episode to harm development of the show and impact the people that work on it (through the media crushing them for interviews).
With the show having wrapped for the season (the finale was last night) and a few months of downtime looming before production picks up, you know this is gonna’ blow over in a few weeks. Then Baldwin can get back to repairing his relationship in private (which is the way it should have gone had Kimmie or or her minions not leaked the voice mail – and you know they did) and also get back to working on the show.
I think his Comments came as frustration that private matters had to be engaged in the public forum. He knows that if he weren’t an actor, the press wouldn’t care, and I think his statements to The View – in a way – illustrate that.
Alec’s not going anywhere.

I don’t watch the show so I don’t have an opinion one way or the other, but I agree that he is likely to return.
Whether the voicemail should have been leaked or not is irrelevant. I don’t care how many problems someone has with an ex, it’s shameful for someone to unload on a child like that.

@Ed: I agree if it is a ploy to bring the heat down, but I didn’t really perceive any heat on him other than the initial reaction. No one from NBC or their advertisers were calling for him to leave the show. He has certainly said all the right things and sounded sincere in his apologies, but also stuck to his guns when it comes to Basinger. Also, their break-up has been far from private so far, so why would it start now?
@Noelle: I agree, it is shameful that Alec unloaded on his daughter like that. The story talks about how this kind of thing happens to the best of us (aren’t we all guilty of this at some point in our lives?), and while that is certainly true, it is far worse when it happens and a child is involved. Sure, you can apologize, but the experience and understanding just isn’t there for a child, so it is much worse than when it happens between adults. It is too bad that Alec didn’t have that in mind when he exploded, especially since he was talking glowingly of her earlier that day/night on Letterman.

He better not leave 30 Rock– he is (with Kenneth the page a close second) the best thing about the show.
Also, what’s with the calling Dr Phil to discuss his family troubles? Were there no other psychologists available at the time? 😉
