Four bucks a gallon?
Ugh… it could be a very expensive Summer for me if I don’t get a new job, or at least relocate mine. Filling up ~3 times a week is going to get even more painful…

Whatever happened to that push towards telecommuting in the US? Several years later – the technology is there – but the companies don’t seem to be adopting it. In my opinion, jobs like yours are the perfect occupations to offer this choice. It might be cheaper just taking the State Helicopter to work.

My dad tried the telecommuting thing for a few years and found, what with all the errands and demands made by family members and other little distractions, he couldn’t get enough work done.

I did the telecommuting thing for a couple years too, but increasingly had to go into the office until it became an everyday thing, which makes no sense given what I do.
I will say, my experience was different than the Ronster’s. It probably makes a difference not having responsibility outside yourself and your (former) live-in GF. I found that I got way more work done at home because people were less likely to call me there than stop by my desk when in the office.
Oh, and then there is the time saved not showering…
