Nineteen and oh-no…

I wanted to post something yesterday, but didn’t get around to it. Not because I was too mad or anything, just too busy. So busy that I watched CSI: Miami last night, without the sound up… which was a good thing. I hate that show.

Anyway, I just read the following from Coach Belichick in an article on boston.com:

“It’s time to move on,” Belichick said. “I’m not going to sit here and dwell on anything, good or bad, that happened in the past. It is what it is. We played our last game of the ’07 season.”

I love this guy. So nonchalant, right? Yeah, but he’s got to be raging inside. If he were able, you’d think he’d have his secondary out on the practice field yesterday, in full pads and working on their mistakes, but alas, that will have to wait until the first mini-camp I guess. They were awful for the entire playoffs and they were just as bad against the Giants on Sunday.

Yeah, the offensive line picked a bad time to suck real bad, for really the first time all year, but for me, it was all about bad secondary play. The D-line and LB’s took away the run like they wanted, but the secondary couldn’t stop little Eli. Yeah, one INT, but it was a deflection, wasn’t it? I really wish there was a better pass rush on Eli, but the Giants O-line did an awesome job in protecting that little baby Manning. To his credit, he made the plays when he needed to… and, I still don’t know how he evaded that damn sack on their TD drive… amazing. Like it was meant to be.

Anyway, kudos to Tom Coughlin (I always liked him) and… um… well, I don’t like any of the Giants players. Toomer is a piece of classless trash. Plax is talented, and apparently a better predictor than we thought, but I don’t like him because of that. Strahan and Umenyiora, again, also talented, but pose way too much (not that they are any different than most). Maybe Brandon Jacobs, but just because he helped me win a playoff fantasy team pool (along with Welker and Brady). That was about the only positive I took away from Sunday.

There were two non-calls that I saw, but they didn’t much matter, so I can’t blame the refs. Nope, I think it is all on the secondary. That means bye-bye Samuel, my most hated Patriot. Hobbs was awful too, but he’s been hurting, so a slight pass there… probably the same for Gay, but then, he’s never really shown he’s that good. The safeties? Well, Harrison totally botched the Tyree circus catch by helping him instead of breaking it up like he should have. Sanders must have been fine as I never saw him. Meriweather nailed some guy in the nuts with his helmet (Jacobs maybe?) and that was about all I remember of him. And, whatever happened to Eugene Wilson? Remember when he was good before Rodney started getting hurt? He’s never been the same player since then.

I tore my Pats jersey off as the Giants scored the winning TD. I had it. I didn’t punch anything or yell, I quietly took it off and put on a neutral shirt. I was done. It was over. I would have been fine with losing the game too, after all, I’m not greedy and the Giants played very well (obviously). Nope, I was only so mad because the Pats should have won and didn’t. It was right there. They had it and let it go. It only stung because it was for the undefeated season — they were far from “perfect” from halfway in the season on — and that sucked… to lose it on the last game. If they went in 16-2, I wouldn’t have cared unless the Giants were awful, but they weren’t. They were a hot team and stayed hot. The Pats were a team on the decline and stayed in decline.

I hope the Pats can go out and sign, trade or draft a ton of linebackers and D-backs, because they are going to need them.
