Ill communication
I just listened to Ill Communication on my way home from work tonight. I left at 9.00p. I realized that it would be a great title for a blog post, so…
I was at work for the second night in a row until 9p, so that’s ill. I have gone just over a month without posting, so that’s ill. If I went a calendar month without a post, that would be ill… therefore, here’s your fluff piece to put a stop to that.
Seriously though, I intimated in the last real post that I’d fill in blanks later, so I guess this is it. I think that blogging during the summer can be a bit tough when you don’t have some regular topic to shout about. I definitely have never had that, so it is here and there. Well, weekends are straight out because the last thing I want is to be in front of a keyboard on a weekend. Weeknights have also been straight out because I have been getting home late most nights and since those are due to work, I have had enough of the keyboard for a day. When not, I want to spend it on the couch in front of the 360 for a game or catch up on summer shows.
Now, I am not complaining about work in any shape or form. I am very much enjoying my new job. If I weren’t, I wouldn’t spend 2-3 extra hours there a day. In fact, I love that I am not clock-watching anymore. Seven and a half couldn’t go by fast enough, but now, the time flies. I guess I just want anyone still perusing these pages that I’m not done with blogging, but that it is probably going to be infrequent for the next few months. I’m sure once that crisp autumn air descends upon me I’ll be more motivated and interested in typing.
For now, here’s a quick update of the summer so far (maybe a little spring too), but fear not, I’ll have some posts coming that cover things in more depth. I promise. Really. I just don’t promise when. You’ve heard this before.
Flicks (in this order of awesomeness)
- The Dark Knight
- Iron Man
- Wanted
- Forgetting Sarah Marshall
- Indy 4
Probably only looking forward to Pineapple Express for what is left the rest of the summer.
Telly
- Bleach
- My Boys
- Venture Brothers
- Code Geass
- Death Note (missed on first run-thru)
I know… you watch none of those.
Tunes
- Coldplay – Viva la Vida
- Death Cab for Cutie – Narrow Stairs
- Carolina Liar – Coming to Terms
- Tokyo Police Club – Elephant Shell
- Gnarls Barkley – The Odd Couple
- Nine Inch Nails – The Slip (free!)
- The Kooks – Konk
- Weezer – (Red Album)
- G. Love and Special Sauce – Superhero Brother
- R.E.M. – Accelerate (really!)
I haven’t bought a lot of discs so far this year… maybe 25 or so…
Games
- Assassin’s Creed (super Crackdown cool!)
- Lego Indiana Jones (super fun!)
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (yes, I purchased a PS3)
- The Simpsons Game (super funny!)
- Army of Two (decent co-op fun with Mistah Plow)
Playing Ninja Gaiden II right now… I hate boss battles. Super sick with the slicing and dicing though…
Comics
- Y: The Last Man Volumes 1-10 (freakin awesome)
- Ex Machina Volumes 1-6 (more Brian K. Vaughan awesomeness)
- Wanted (better than the flick)
There are probably a lot of books in the stacks and stacks of unread non-trades in my office. I’m never going to catch up by year end, so that likely means I stop collecting per a New Year resolution.
No more lists!
As for non-list-type-stuff… I hit up the Yankee game on Saturday with my friend Jay. They got killed and it was hot. Had to make it the third time seeing Wakefield this year (out of four games). Oh wells.
Had a family reunion down the Cape two weeks ago. Got to catch up with all (???) my second cousins, many not seen in ~15 years! Was down the Cape again last weekend (after game) for more family time. Heading there again tomorrow or Thursday night. Definitely need time off. Although…
Been taking most Fridays off this summer. My company decided to give us 7 (of 12) free half-Fridays during the summer. Since 7/4 was a Friday, it is really 11, but we can choose when as long as there’s coverage, etc. I decided to combine with a 1/2 vacation day for several so far. In fact, last Friday was first I had worked since start of June. Another great perk from my awesome company… you know, besides wearing shorts, a t-shirt and flip-flops when I do go in the office. 🙂
Going to see Coldplay on Monday with Noelle. She scored the luxury box seats (for $100 a piece — wow!) from her company. It will be well worth it. As you noted above, the new disc is excellent (iTunes commercials be damned)!
Did not drop bones on an iPhone 3G. Think it still isn’t a good enough phone, but still an excellent iPod (duh!) and mobile web browser. Maybe they’ll work it out with the third generation, but I might have to grab something else before then (Crackberry Thunder? HTC Touch Diamond?). I’m also not keen on switching from Verizon to AT&T.
Got my excise tax bill for Sheila today. Damage is very close to 1k. Almost fell over.
Oh, Ill Communication is a great summer album too, but I have already blogged about that before.

My Top 5 Flicks of the Year (thus far):
1. The Dark Knight
2. Wall-E
3. Iron Man
4. Wanted
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
(I never would have imagined in a million years that Indy wouldn’t crack my Top 5 – we’ll see how the rest of the year pans out – what with Quantum of Solace and the new Harry Potter due before year end).
Top 5 Games (so far – this is games I played this year not necessarily released this year)
1. Metal Gear Solid IV (PS3)
2. LostWinds (Wii)
3. The Darkness (multi) – this was a big surprise
4. Assassin’s Creed
5. Lego Indy
– Again, this list will ndoubtably look much different by the end of the year. I see MGS IV hanging on and maybe LostWinds but there is a lot of promising titles ahead.
Telly
1. Lost (GREAT SEASON)
2. The Office (not as great as year’s before but still made me laugh a lot)
3. Pushing Daisies (I need to see them all though – that strike really caused some havoc)
Comics
1. Y: The Last Man
2. Ex Machina
– Both by Brian K Vaughn who is the flavor of the decade. I guess Mocha Chip since its my fave. This guy can write and its easy to see why the Lost scribes took him in as one of their own.
As for your excise tax bill – cry me a river. That’s what you get for buying a truck that has its own helipad.

I wasn’t complaining about it, just saying… it is a shock when you’ve been paying $40 for a few years on a beat up Jeep. 😉
So, Darkness was that good, huh? Maybe the demo I played didn’t do it justice.
As for your lists in general, you went further in scope than I did. I plan on doing half year lists soon… but, I guess I jumped the shark already.
