Spark one up
Not really. I am still confused by the results of Question 2, but whatever.
No, this is in relation to my oil burner, which last night decided to not when I turned it on for the first time this year. I usually try to make it to December before turning on the heat. I don’t know why either. Not like it is the money. Anyway, this week has been pretty cold and it was time, but no joy. By the time I awoke this morning, it was 58 degrees in the house. Nice.
Needless to say, I got on the horn… err, gmail to my landlord and he got a service call set up for today. Short story long, I have heat now, so back up to 68 degrees and I won’t get to find out if I can see my breath inside the house tonight. By the way, if you don’t have a feather bed, then you need one. I didn’t even notice the lack of heat once I was in the coccoon with Wilford Brimley.
Anyway, it got me thinking about not having heat and maybe not having money for heat and I know there a those out there that don’t. In fact, lots of people right now are finding they don’t have money for anything essential, nevermind extra. So, once Paypal is done earning 5 days interest off my $50, Citizens Energy is getting that money. I am with Joe 4 Oil. We are for South American dictatorships as long as it means cheaper energy for our less fortunate. I won’t suggest you donate or anything. I don’t have kids to buy toys for… except for yours, I guess. Okay, my own kids to buy toys for…

Glad you got the heat working. This week has been a frigid bitch (not in terms of January weather but for pre-Thanksgiving, it’s been a chiller).
This took a contemplative turn at the end and I read this on the same day that I read a note on R. Beleskas facebook that she turned in a number of coats for the annual coat drive and was staggered by how many people need them this year.
Stuff like that makes you think.
I read all this on the same day that word came down that my main client – the one who was recently acquired – will be moving to our competitor (not by their choice). Meaning, I’m back to where I was 2 years ago. In 6-to-8 months, if I don’t have another client or position, I don’t have a job.

Yeah, I look at this time of year for different reasons than in the past. First, Christmas is for kids, so let’s make sure the kids are just-short-of-spoiled, but once they are 18, they are cutoff! Second, Christmas is for thinking of folks less fortunate, so whether it is a couple bucks or change into the red bucket with an annoying bell-ringing-person next to it, dropping canned goods off for a pantry drive, buying something for Toys for Tots, old clothing donation or donating to your favorite charity; all good karma.
As for your contemplation, I’d like to believe you are safe. You are too good a resource that they wouldn’t find you something, even in this current economic state. I know 2009 is going to be a bitch of a year for a lot of people, we just hope it won’t be too hard on ourselves and those we hold dear.
