Telefizzled w.16

The week started off with a Big Bang. That would be me punching the desk because the computer decided to shut itself down last Monday. That meant it wasn’t up and running to record The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. (See what I did there?) I figured I’d be able to catch them later on cbs.com or tv.com, but I was only half right. No Big Bang full episodes there and it feels dirty to search the torrents. So, I missed one of my favorite shows this week, but the nerdgasm of The Legion showing up on Smallville made up for it. I am getting ahead of myself.

How I Met Your Mother: A full episode dedicated to *reading a magazine* and friends with benefits. Dare I say this episode got the show back on track a little more for me? I do dare. Of course, when you are work, you don’t read a magazine, you surf the web on your mobile or Crackberry. Am I right? The reality stars come to life on the magazine cover were awesome. Even if one scene was Heidi and Spencer.

Scrubs: And just like that, Courteney Cox is out of there. She’s got a new show for Bill Lawrence anyway. So, I have to say, the bad beard on JD has to go. He actually looks worse than I do when I don’t shave and believe me, after looking at a lot of photos of myself for the Facebooks recently, I look bad. (Mental note: shave twice a week.) Out of both episodes, the Turk and Dr. Cox stuff was the best, although The Todd wanting his “I feel little JD high five” was pretty frickin funny. You knew that since this is probably the end of the line that the Eliot and JD renewed effort at romance was coming.

Smallville: “No tights. No flights.” That was the mantra for this show going in and they already broke the second one a little bit. No wonder The Legion didn’t recognize Kal El when they arrived. This episode was teased in the Entertainment Weekly Fall Preview as something that would probably get fanboys frothy. Yes it did. It delivered and that is all due to Geoff Johns pitching the idea to Jeph Loeb and he in turn contacting the producers on the show for which he worked before Lost and Heroes. (Both are prolific comic book writers.) Anyway, if you read comics and saw this episode, you geeked out. I sure did. Best of the year.

The Office: The Triangle is over? Looks that way. Michael is such a little weasel. I love it. You gotta feel bad for Andy though. Poor bastard never saw it coming. The Prius sneak attack was brilliant! Jim’s scavenger hunt for Dwight’s office weapon cache was funny too. I have to be honest though, after the first sequence of Michael in NYC with Wallace, I fast forwarded thru the rest of his scenes. Was I wrong?

30 Rock: Dr. Spaceman! I don’t think we’ve seen him in a while. Love him when he shows up and it should be more often and for longer. There’s untapped stuff there. So, we have a flu bug threatening to ruin the talent’s vacation plans and Jack’s romance. Romance was better than flu. Barely. The Tracy and Jenna stuff was weak. I don’t like when they play up them like that. Makes me hate the characters a little more. Tracy redeems himself always, but Jenna, she really needs to go.

Friday Night Lights: Back in business and I thought it was a good start to the season. Smash is probably right, racquetball might be the whitest sport ever, but I like it. I stopped playing the second whitest sport — hockey — to dedicate more time to it when I was a kid. What this has to do with the episode? Nothing. This one seemed pretty Smash and Tyra centric to me. Probably because I ignore Lila whenever she shows up, which is too  bad for Riggins. The Sarasen stuff sets up for next week and that’s the story you want to see get going.

Now I have to ask myself, with the loss of an episode of Big Bang, do I finally break down and get a DVR from Comcast? Has Media Center shot itself in the foot for the last time? Hmm… not the last time, but maybe the second to last time.
