Telefizzled w.18
No introduction this week.
Trust Me: I figured I would check out this new show on TNT since it features Tom Cavanagh. I recently copped to having a man crush on him, behind Zach Braff of course. Anyway, he and Eric McCormack play buddies in advertising. Monica Potter is along for eye candy. The guy on Life on Mars was their boss and bites it in the pilot/first ep. McCormack gets his job and Cavanagh is mad. They make up by show’s end. Standard pilot/intro stuff, but this might be a good dramedy. I will give it my usual three episode tryout.
Scrubs: Sesame Street daydreams? Brilliant! Elmo and Grover were awesome. Oscar was only good for being paired with Janitor. I am liking the Jo intern best out of the three, but Ed started to win me over a little bit with this one (was he in both eps?). Can’t wait to see Cox tormented as the man. The Jordan/Kelso showdown was classic and disturbing. J.D.’s beard needs to go. Everytime I see it I realize how stupid I look when I haven’t shaved all week. (Reminder to self… again: shave twice a week.)
Lost: My comments can be found over on The Ed Zone. Juliet wins again. There really weren’t any other contenders.
Smallville: Lana all powered up huh? That was where it finally got interesting and now I doubt we’ll ever see much of that. Something like this was hinted at by Imra (Saturn Girl) in the “Legion” episode. I don’t think this was ever in any of the comics continuity. Anyway, this Clark and Lana stuff really bursts the bubble of people like me watching the Lois and Clark connection growing. What’s up with the suit anyway? That dress she was wearing at the end didn’t make it seem like she was wearing much of a suit. Is it just a general reference to the nanomachines that have been grafted to her?
Burn Notice: Michael Irvin guest stars as a former football player turned coach/mentor and he didn’t annoy the crap out of me. Amazing. Good guys win. Bad guys lose. A little more is learned. Bruce Campbell is the man. Gabrielle Anwar looked better back in the day before she had plants and a six pack. Tricia Helfer looks way nicer here than in any Battlestar Galactica episode I have ever seen (not many). Two episodes in before I render a decision.
Friday Night Lights: Wow, Smash was actually considering giving up the footballs for a 10k raise and a company car? Even after the feel good ending of the previous week when he finally got over getting hit and having his knee hold up? Oh the drama! Wait… I sometimes forget this is a primetime soap. Make no mistake. So, Saracen and Julie look to be getting close again. They are so cute. It was really, really crappy that he fumbled on the goal line. That was a kick in the cajones for sure. How exactly doesn’t Tami see that she is getting played? Even after Coach tells her so. You definitely feel like they are tossing too much on top of the Taylor’s and Saracen, but that makes for the drama, right kids? (Yes, I am deliberately being girly up above. Not that I’m not anyway.)
The Office: “You never expect that you are the killer.” This was probably the best hour long episode that they have ever done. Probably because it was really two parts: Stanley’s stress and the roast. “I consider myself to be a good person, but I am going to do my best to make him cry.” The fire drill at the start had me rolling without even hearing it. (The sound was down when I started watching it.) Dwight cutting the face off the dummy and wearing it Lecter style had me rolling. Rolling! Too many good quotes to even try to list, so feel free to add. “If it were an iPod it would be a Shuffle.” The only thing I didn’t like was the stupid movie. Very stupid.

Scrubs – Was it just me, or did that first episode feel like it should have been the first one of the season. Like – they aired it out of order. They were being introduced to the orderlies. They kept talking about Kelso’s replacement (not Dr. Cox’s) and then everyone was noticing J.D.s beard for the first time. I think we were subject to a little bait and switch.
The Office – Just watched it last night. The opening sequence made me cry with laughter. Funniest damn thing I’ve seen in a long time and it just kept going. You had Oscar falling from the vents, the cat being tossed through the ceiling, and Kevin leveling the camera man. Awesome stuff!!!

I didn’t really notice that sticking out any more than usual with that stuff but you may be right. They very could have planned that as the start and then pushed it in favor of the Courteney Cox episodes to give it a star spotlight introduction for the season on a different network.

The funny thing is – I remember watching the first episode and thinking it was strange how they just had the interns there and JD had the bear without much mention given to it. I thought they just started in mid-stream. When i saw last week’s episode, I realized that we were seeing things out of order. Especially look at that first scene – where they all choose which intern will be their’s for the year.
