Asides

Short posts due to not wishing to be overly wordy about an item or simply about, or a link to, another site on the interwebs.

A toy story

I have been a little behind on posting a link to this, but I was happy to do a “5 Questions with…” over on Poe Ghostal’s Points of Articulation.

That’s because I was helping him sell out by putting up ads within that snappy-ish blog I helped him build. It’s now an “ish” because it has been compromised by ads. I kid of course, but when you get over there, click some to make the guy some extra bones for his wedding.

It was fun to both build the site and do the interview, although it took a long time to answer. Brought back some good memories (outside of the petty theft). 🙂

Update: I should have added that Ed has his own “5 Questions with…” over on PGPoA too. He has now done a write up of his own on The Ed Zone which incorporates some thoughts on the topic and site as well as the text of the interview.

Fourteen K

Well, I had to do some marathon gaming over my vacation, but I just got over my goal of 14k for the end of the year. Of course, trying to do so while playing Mass Effect will cause you to spend a lot of time getting points, but at least it is fun. I had to bust out Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga today to get 80 points to put me over the edge.

Gamerscore on 12.31.07

Anyway, both Ed and I busted over the 14k mark for the year, which was about an 11k (or so) increase for the year — probably really 10 months — and that is pretty awesome. Actually, I did it in less than that given I was sans 360 for about two more months due to being red ringed.

So, Ed’s goal is 20k by the end of 2008, which is very doable given what we did this year. I’m setting mine at 24k, which is a bit more aggressive, but then, I don’t have a Wii (or a life for that matter) to take away any time from gaming.

Let it snow

I don’t know about you, but I left work at 12.45 (when I saw the first flake) and got home at 4.45. Of course, I made a mistake by getting off at Braintree instead of continuing on down the highway. Had I done that, maybe I make it home in three hours instead of four. The GPS in my new truck probably helped or hurt the commute. I can’t decide if taking side roads I didn’t know connected with other roads helped or hurt…

Anyway, I was just reading an article on boston.com about the event and was struck by this line:

“One person was killed when a man driving a snowmobile the wrong way in the center lane of Interstate 84 in Sturbridge collided with a tractor trailer at 1 a.m.”

Um… because he’s a dumbass redneck. That’s why he died. Snowmobile… on an Interstate… what do you expect?

Oh… pun intended.

Twelve K

Well, Halo 3 has vaulted both Ed and I over the 12k Gamerscore mark almost three months earlier than our goal. I’m glad I was able to make it given I had no 360 for a month. Pretty cool.

Gamerscore on 10.12.2007

Ed, Jason and I completed the Halo 3 campaign cooperatively on Legendary this past Thursday night. That had me 40 points away from 12k and I picked up the Marathon Man achievement for exactly 40 on Friday. We have now moved on to playing the campaign again with the meta/scoring turned on to complete those achievements.

Bird and bee

Because there’s just one of each.

I posted some new photos, which I referred to in my last post about photos. I went back for more photos of the flowers in my Mom’s yard and ended up with some bonus bird photos. She routinely has an excellent variety of birds in her yard around dinner time, which is apparently the same for you and them. (Not so much me as I eat late.)  One of these days I’ll get some photos of the cardinals that come to feed. It is all about patience and time, but that’s true for a lot of photography I guess.

Anyway, I almost got some of two hummingbirds flitting about the yard, but they weren’t stopping anywhere convenient. I almost mistook the first one for a big dragonfly! Her hummingbird feeder wasn’t yet up, but it is now, so maybe I’ll luck into some, but the season is getting pretty late.

So, the new photos are spread across the Flowers 2007 and new Wild things sets. You might be better off viewing by date though. If you can identify the flower, leave a comment on it.

Orange fluff

I have been lazy with the writing lately, so more on that in the next post, but I also feel like I’m in a rut in taking photos only at Sox games. With my first Pats game just over two weeks away, I need to get some other photos out there, so I have been better about trying to take photos of other stuff. Now, since I don’t live in the city, that is tough. It leaves me with flowers and sunsets. Grrrl photos.

Well, I have even more! I took a couple different sunsets over the past couple/few weeks and this is the first. I have added these new photos to my Sunsets set on flickr. I’ll leave it to you to check the “date taken” to figure out the new ones, but as of now, there are eight in total at the start of the set. Or, I guess you could view by date instead. Whatever works for you.

More to come.

More grrrl photos

Not really… but, they are of flowers and a sunset

I also added them to some existing photosets, flowers and sunsets, but you are better off seeing just the new ones with those first two links. Don’t forget to look at the flowers in the larger sizes because those thumbnails definitely don’t do them justice.

Mistah 10k

Congratulations are in order for Mistah Plow as he ended last night’s Oblivion love-fest by getting an achievement worth 50 points and make his overall Gamerscore exactly 10,000. That’s pretty cool.

Phoned in

What’s this? Three posts in three hours? Oh my gawdz!

I just wanted to point out a few photos I took with my mobile as I was driving home from work tonight (last night???). The rainbow(s) were some of the best I have ever seen and here I am with only my mobile! So much for having expensive camera equipment when you have no secure place to keep it! If only I had a vehicle that had locks that meant something…

Anyway, they were super bright on the ends and wicked fat. There was also sometimes a second rainbow that almost was like a reflection in that the colors were going the opposite way. I don’t recall ever noticing that before when I have seen doubles.

Ten K

Just a little celebratory aside for breaking the 10k barrier with my Gamerscore. Ed and I both set goals of reaching 9k by August 1st. Well, we have both already reached that and I continued on to 10k last night after getting the 180 pt. achievement in Lego Star Wars II for completing the game 100%.

Gamerscore on 7.22.2007

I think we both believe that 12k is well within reach by the end of the year.

UPDATE: My 360 blogged a special post for itself as I hit this milestone.
