Photography

Posts about my adventures as an amateur photographer. Usually one or two nice photos show up around these parts, but not enough in my opinion… because I’m a lazy photographer.

Three new

I posted three new photos from the Braves and Sox game. These were taken from the upper box, about 6-8 rows up, on the first base line. Please go check them out and look at the large versions (I even linked them in photo descriptions).

If you like them, please leave me a comment here or there. I feel like no one looks at the photos, even with the cool new flickr slide show in the house. I know I haven’t posted many lately, but it is not worth the time it takes to post to flickr (with titles and descriptions) if you aren’t checking them out.

Anyway, give me some feedback!!! Good or bad, it doesn’t matter, as long as it is constructive. Is it that I post too many in a set? Should I trim out some fat? Believe me, I try, but I like that some can help tell the story, so sometimes you get a string. 🙂

Sox flickr photos

I finally put up some photos from the first Sox game I went to this year. I had a major time waste in doing this due to issues with the flickr uploadr and my Canon editing software. I’m right p!ssed.

Anyway, calm me down by taking a few minutes to check them out. They really suck.

Seriously. They suck compared to the ones that I took last weekend at the Braves game. Convince me to waste more time and share them.

BTW – You’d do well to look at a lot of the *distant* ones in a larger size.

UPDATED: Check out flickr’s awesome improved slideshow with this set. Use your F11 key to switch your browser to full screen mode (and back) before you click the link. Oh, and click the “i” in the middle of the photo when you start so you get my titles and descriptions.

Lazy Foxboro

I’m sure it has nothing to do with skit from that show I don’t watch — I’m only aware of it from watching The Office — but it sums up the point pretty well. I don’t even remember when I promised to get these up, but the photos I took at the Pats playoff game against the Jets on January 7th are finally on flickr. My laziness is to blame for the delay.

I think the biggest problem with something like this is taking the time to sort thru all the shots taken and then taking some time to crop or adjust them. Well, remembering how long it took me last time, I kept putting it off and I really need to get better about this if I am to be serious about it being a part of this blog.

I took 462 shots at the Jets game, which is roughly twice what I took at the Colts game in November. Trimming that down to the 87 shots I posted in the photo set was very time consuming… and then deciding if I wanted to edit them or not… and then actually doing it… and then uploading them… and then giving them name, descriptions and tagging ... Yule blog

Nantucket ACK-mas

Well, tis the season and all that, right?

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday, whether that be Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or Festivus.

I had bigger plans for my Yule Blog, but the frenetic pace of the past week — yes, even with having it off from work — got the better of me. It sapped my will to sit here and blog up something special; to “Deck the Halls” if you will.

I did have a head start by posting some old photo sets from Nantucket Christmas Strolls past, so if you are interested, they are from 2001 and 2002.

Peace!

Best. Billboard. Ever.

Ignignokt billboard

As many of you know, I drive a long distance to and from work every day. Well, now I have this billboard to greet me on my trip down I-93 South into Boston each night and it puts a huge smile on my face. It showed up three or four weeks ago and I finally stopped last week to take some shots after work.

At night, Ignignokt is illuminated by black light, which is probably the first time I have ever seen this done. During the day, he’s his usual green self. He’s censored all the time. Click that link for better detail.

And, it gets better. An Err billboard showed up last week on I-93 South after Boston. I am going to try to get some shots of him this week.

This show might pretty much suck now, but this almost excuses it…

Phootball Fotography

Patriots D looks to get some Manning

Here’s yet another thing I am late with, but with good reason. It takes a long time to go thru 300+ photos that I shot at the game. Then, you have to some adjustments to each with respect to the lighting and sharpness before finally cropping them. I never do any of this with my other stuff, but it seems very necessary with sports photography.

I have to tell you, this has to be the hardest stuff to shoot. I suppose that’s why sports photographers make a good sack of coin and run about the sidelines with $10-20k of equipment hanging from their bodies. You only have one chance to get the shot. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get any, but I’ll keep trying. If you want to see what I did get, here’s the photo set.

You know what? Maybe weddings are harder to shoot because you... Continue reading »

Under the Bridge

Golden Gate BridgeOkay, so really, it is above the bridge, or in front of it, but you get the picture… er, I mean the point. I figured I started with a RHCP tune for a title, so I might as well end with one, even if I don’t really like this one that much.

Anyhoo, I have finally completed posting the rest of my *good* photos from the San Francisco area trip. I could add more in the future, but I really need to plow thru the rest and determine if any gems were missed or, if I can make any more into gems via Photoshop.

I added photos to two sets I created last time out and describe in my previous post. The photos I took during my last two nights by the bridge were added to the Golden... Continue reading »

Fake Tales of San Francisco

Coit TowerI posted more photos — do yourself a favor and look at larger sizes when on Flickr — from my trip to California tonight. As mentioned in my previous post about the trip, I hit Big Sur for the first day. These were all taken on my second full day there, which was Sunday 10/22.

I arrived by noon PDT on Friday 10/22, but I felt so sick after my flight — stomach and headache or migraine that caused me to feel nauseous, it was all bad — I headed straight for my hotel and crashed for a couple hours. I only got two hours sleep the night before and maybe two more bad hours on the flight. By the time I woke up, I was pretty worthless... Continue reading »

Californication

Fog rolling in on Big SurThe first photo set from my recent trip to California is up. It chronicles a little too long trip down Highway 1 thru the Big Sur area. I had done this trip as a kid in a Crown Vic rental car loaded up with three adults and three kids and still had fond memories. Noelle and I didn’t make it past Monterey when we were out two years ago, so it was number one on my priority list for this time.

After seeing a lot of good stuff in the beginning, I went too far down and should have turned around earlier, but I kept thinking I’d eventually see something worthwhile, besides I had nothing else to do after a certain point in time. I think that is called the point-of-no-return. Anyway, I got elephant seals sleeping... Continue reading »

My Friend Flickr

Stars and Stripes

First off, everyone celebrate! This is my 100th Post or Page in the OB1og. That’s probably 50 more than I thought I’d get to at this point, but I guess a good chunk — 44 at current count — are just Asides, so maybe I am half-fluff.

Okay, the real point of this post is to point out to you that I have been making some adjustments to my Flickr photostream over the last month or so. Ever since I have upgraded to a Pro account, I have been playing with more features. I recently, as in today, decided to mark some photos as viewable by Friends, Family or Friends & Family only.

What does that mean to you? Well, if you aren’t... Continue reading »
