Nineteen and oh-no…

I wanted to post something yesterday, but didn’t get around to it. Not because I was too mad or anything, just too busy. So busy that I watched CSI: Miami last night, without the sound up… which was a good thing. I hate that show.

Anyway, I just read the following from Coach Belichick in an article on boston.com:

“It’s time to move on,” Belichick said. “I’m not going to sit here and dwell on anything, good or bad, that happened in the past. It is what it is. We played our last game of the ’07 season.”

I love this guy. So nonchalant, right? Yeah, but he’s got to be raging inside. If he were able, you’d think he’d have his secondary out on the practice field yesterday, in full pads and working on their mistakes, but alas, that will have to wait until the first mini-camp I guess. They were awful for the entire p... Continue reading »

Four jacks

Juice sent a link out via e-mail tonight and I figured I’d post it — you need to read the full post to get the link — for the two of you probably not on his e-mail list. It is the new SportsCenter clip of David Ortiz and Jorge Posada. If it isn’t the first video in the player/list, look for it. It is entitled “Betrayal.” Wally’s reaction is priceless.

I almost wish I didn’t see this, because while funny and clever, it is a little disturbing. I mean, the thought that Papi thought it was okay to ever put on a Yankee cap, whether for fun or not, isn’t sitting well with me. Good thing for us he’ll never wear one where it counts.

Anyone else see the irony of a DH giving hat advice to a catcher? He’s the only other guy not wearing a hat full-time since he never sees the field (outside an interleague game).

For a little payback, I’d like to see Jason Giambi trying to give Jason Varitek advice on hats…... Continue reading »

Ignoring it is bliss

Oh little blog, how I have ignored you these past couple weeks… and boy has it been great. Not feeling pressured to write a damn thing to bore the masses with endless drivel, just like this post.

Are you bored yet?

Don’t worry, you’ll get there. I already am, but reflect on the fact that blogging is now 10 years old. Consider how many boring blog posts have been posted over that time! See my latest aside for more.

Of course, there are numerous reasons I haven’t blogged lately, the first being the continued drama of being a fantasy baseball league commissioner, especially when said league includes a Mookie. I have spent many a late night over the past week tending to my little baseball league that barely can. However, light is at the end of the tunnel now, so time is freed up to blog a bit.

So, continuing to riff on the baseball, and real quick mind you as many of you care less, I just want to point out a couple things. One,... Continue reading »

Falling Away With You

Casino Royale teaster posterWouldn’t you say it is rather ironic that while I was writing my Summer wrap-ups last week it was feeling like Autumn and as I write my Autumn preview this week it has felt like Summer? I guess that’s how we roll here in New England.

Has the wacky weather been a contributing factor in the huge downturn in readers over the past few weeks here at OB1og as well? Certainly can’t be because I haven’t been posting like Ed or Jason. Of course, Ed isn’t posting for a good reason and then there is Jason not posting for a secret... Continue reading »

Fall Fantasy Sports

Well, the new season of fantasy sports started today, which also means the new season of a real sport started today. Of course, that sport is football and your New England Patriots survived a close game with the Buffalo Bills to win 19-17. I’ll tell you, I wasn’t feeling real confident after the Bills were up 7-0 after 12 seconds of play, but Tom Terrific marched them down the field on the next possession to tie it up. Maroney looked pretty good. Dillon better watch his back. At least they started off with a win.

As for my fantasy squad, well they didn’t fair so well. Looks like I won’t be starting off with a win. Carson Palmer laid a big egg today, so that’s pretty much what is killing me right now. Travis Henry getting the TD touches instead of Chris Brown also does not help. For those that are interested, here’s my team:

  • QB: Carson Palmer, Jake Delhomme
  • RB: Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Chris Brown, Cedric Benson
  • WR: Marvin Harrison, Hines Ward, Muhsin Muhammad, Laveranues Coles, Ben Watson, Mark Clayton

Thread da Windmill

That would be the name of my Fantasy Golf team. Yes… that’s correct, fantasy golf. “Team” is a bit of a misnomer as there’s really no team at all, but I don’t know what else to call it. Oh wait, yes I do… “Fantasy Golf waste-of-fifty-dollars.” Yeah, that sums it up nicely.

You may ask, “Why the hell would you play fantasy golf?” Well, I am finding myself asking that very question weekly. Every Tuesday I am e-mailed by Yahoo to set my *line-up* for the start of each tournament on Thursday. Well, since the fourth week of the *season* I have dreaded the roughly 5 minutes I have to spend doing so. I was kicking ass for the first two weeks and then fell to Earth in week 3 and have not recovered since. In fact, the only fun I have really had with this was picking my name, which is a tribute to my mini-golfing past.

Traditionally, fantasy baseball and football have been excellent and enjoyable wastes of money for me. I’ve... Continue reading »
