Brady to Moss
So, the Patriots did the unthinkable and traded for one of the baddest bad boys in the NFL, Randy Moss. If this works out because Randy can keep his nose clean and mouth shut, then barring injury, they look to be SB faves to me. Last year we had almost nothing at WR, now we have them up the ass with Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Washington and Gaffney. I left Caldwell off there because he dropped those easy balls against the Colts… oh, and his eyes still freak me out!
Anyway, here’s hoping Rodney can make Moss drink the Kool Aid like he did with Dillon. At the very least, they’ll increase their merchandising revenue even more by selling Moss jerseys. I’ll be at the home opener versus the Chargers and I’m about the same amount excited, which is very.
Lazy Foxboro
I’m sure it has nothing to do with skit from that show I don’t watch — I’m only aware of it from watching The Office — but it sums up the point pretty well. I don’t even remember when I promised to get these up, but the photos I took at the Pats playoff game against the Jets on January 7th are finally on flickr. My laziness is to blame for the delay.
I think the biggest problem with something like this is taking the time to sort thru all the shots taken and then taking some time to crop or adjust them. Well, remembering how long it took me last time, I kept putting it off and I really need to get better about this if I am to be serious about it being a part of this blog.
I took 462 shots at the Jets game, which is roughly twice what I took at the Colts game in November. Trimming that down to the 87 shots I posted in the photo set was very time consuming… and then deciding if I wanted to edit them or not… and then actually doing it… and then uploading them… and then giving them name, descriptions and tagging ... Not-so-evil empire
This is a comment meant for The Mayor of Man Town is a Chick on the Ed Zone, but it is masquerading as a post here on OB1og.
Why?
Well, just because I haven’t been very active here this month, for much the same reasons as Ed, and the comment was long enough to consider as a post in its own right. Maybe…
Jason had the same thought, so now there are twin comment threads on the Zone and BBn. I won’t drop this over there though.
What I really owe my six dear readers are the photos I took at the Pats/Jets playoff game a few weeks ago. I haven’t gotten around to slamming them into Flickr yet. I’ll do my best to get that done this weekend.
Anyway, on to what I was going to drop as a comment:
As Bill Simmons aptly put it in When did hate tak... Continue reading »
Phootball Fotography
Here’s yet another thing I am late with, but with good reason. It takes a long time to go thru 300+ photos that I shot at the game. Then, you have to some adjustments to each with respect to the lighting and sharpness before finally cropping them. I never do any of this with my other stuff, but it seems very necessary with sports photography.
I have to tell you, this has to be the hardest stuff to shoot. I suppose that’s why sports photographers make a good sack of coin and run about the sidelines with $10-20k of equipment hanging from their bodies. You only have one chance to get the shot. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get any, but I’ll keep trying. If you want to see what I did get, here’s the photo set.
You know what? Maybe weddings are harder to shoot because you... Continue reading »
Bucked by Zebras
I know this is probably a day or two late, but I got caught up in watching the telly on Monday night and I just wasn’t up for posting immediately upon returning home from the game on Sunday night. The good news is this is just a short post. The bad news is the Pats lost the game, but you already knew that.
That there picture was taken by my shiny new Motorola Razr. Yup, that’s the highest setting and resolution, resized down and trimmed to fit here. Looks like crap, no? Well, that’s because it is. I wonder why they even bother with the cameras in the phones. They all suck. My old phone took slightly more crappy photos than this one (remember the shot of the grackle?). I understand that distance shots won’t be great, but c’mon, that is some bad stuff. I guess it will take a couple more years. Not the... Continue reading »
Falling Away With You
Wouldn’t you say it is rather ironic that while I was writing my Summer wrap-ups last week it was feeling like Autumn and as I write my Autumn preview this week it has felt like Summer? I guess that’s how we roll here in New England.
Has the wacky weather been a contributing factor in the huge downturn in readers over the past few weeks here at OB1og as well? Certainly can’t be because I haven’t been posting like Ed or Jason. Of course, Ed isn’t posting for a good reason and then there is Jason not posting for a secret... Continue reading »
Fall Fantasy Sports
Well, the new season of fantasy sports started today, which also means the new season of a real sport started today. Of course, that sport is football and your New England Patriots survived a close game with the Buffalo Bills to win 19-17. I’ll tell you, I wasn’t feeling real confident after the Bills were up 7-0 after 12 seconds of play, but Tom Terrific marched them down the field on the next possession to tie it up. Maroney looked pretty good. Dillon better watch his back. At least they started off with a win.
As for my fantasy squad, well they didn’t fair so well. Looks like I won’t be starting off with a win. Carson Palmer laid a big egg today, so that’s pretty much what is killing me right now. Travis Henry getting the TD touches instead of Chris Brown also does not help. For those that are interested, here’s my team:
- QB: Carson Palmer, Jake Delhomme
- RB: Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Chris Brown, Cedric Benson
- WR: Marvin Harrison, Hines Ward, Muhsin Muhammad, Laveranues Coles, Ben Watson, Mark Clayton
Pink Taco Stadium
From the “you can’t make this stuff up” folder, I give you the story about a restaurant chain named “Pink Taco” trying to secure the naming rights to the new Arizona Cardinals football stadium for 10 years @ $30 million. Gee, I wonder why the Cardinals might not take them up on this offer. Could be because if you do a “pink taco” Google image search, you either get hits for pr0n or MySpace pages…
I wish I could find the original article I read about this earlier in the week, but I could not so this one is close enough. You can read their official press release or simply check out their website. It’s actually an entertaining Flash site with music, babes and Lucha Libre wrestlers. Founded by the Hard Rock Cafe family, it would appear to be related to Mexican food like Hooters is to wings.
Wouldn’t you know, the owner’s son is attached to Lindsay Lohan for the moment. Anything for publicity I guess…
Thread da Windmill
That would be the name of my Fantasy Golf team. Yes… that’s correct, fantasy golf. “Team†is a bit of a misnomer as there’s really no team at all, but I don’t know what else to call it. Oh wait, yes I do… “Fantasy Golf waste-of-fifty-dollars.†Yeah, that sums it up nicely.
You may ask, “Why the hell would you play fantasy golf?†Well, I am finding myself asking that very question weekly. Every Tuesday I am e-mailed by Yahoo to set my *line-up* for the start of each tournament on Thursday. Well, since the fourth week of the *season* I have dreaded the roughly 5 minutes I have to spend doing so. I was kicking ass for the first two weeks and then fell to Earth in week 3 and have not recovered since. In fact, the only fun I have really had with this was picking my name, which is a tribute to my mini-golfing past.
Traditionally, fantasy baseball and football have been excellent and enjoyable wastes of money for me. I’ve... Continue reading »
