My Own Worst Enemy Edition

Another one bites the dust… and it wasn’t even on last week, which is why it bites the dust. You have a week layoff to start its season and I lose interest. I still don’t understand why NBC chose to not show any new shows the night before the election, but they did, so while I will continue to watch Chuck until it is cancelled, I won’t say the same for Enemy.

With this one now out, I am no longer watching anything new this season and 30 Rock is already on the bubble after two episodes. Can Aniston and Martin save it? Unlikely.

Chuck: Oh, that’s right… NBC shows this and it wasn’t on. Grr…

Big Bang: A geeky grad student takes a liking to Sheldon. Hilarity ensues. (I kid, I kid.) It was funny to see how they’d handle this kind of situation and it came off pretty much like you’d expect, except it didn’t seem the girl was into him outside of his brain, so no situation where we’d see what happens when he is presented with the option of s3x.

HIMYM: The let... Continue reading »

There is no life on Mars. I didn’t watch it this week and I don’t think I will get around to it. I think this is going to be one of those shows I will watch if it is on and I am too lazy to turn it off. You know you do the same thing sometimes.

Speaking of lazy, I didn’t get a regular post up this week. Will try for two next week, but that might be unrealizable. Anyway, all that with three less shows to watch. Mars because I don’t seem to want to and Big Bang and HIMYM since they were repeats from last year.

Chuck: Missile Command as the mechanism to control a satellite to launch missiles. Awesome. Chuck becomes a hero when he beats the snot out of the game while it spins around on stage, which was just stupid. The creepy guy… I forget his name, was the all-time king, but he passed out or something and Chuck plays and saves the world. The creepy guy is even more creepy now after seeing his drinking pants and stalker video. You don’t care.

My Own Worst Enemy: Tomorrow night, they’ll kill him and the show will be over, bu... Continue reading »

One down.

I had two opportunities to watch Heroes this weekend and couldn’t bring myself to do it. That’s even after Ed’s endorsement. So I just called it. I deleted it right off Media Center and the series setting as well. I’m out. Enough with the stealing. The mystery was gone for me. That said, if someone tells me at the end of this season that it rocked hard, I’ll rent it on DVD, but I am not going to invest my time in it now.

Now that that is out of the way, on to this weeks thoughts. I’m going to stick with the title and just add on a week number. Easy enough.

Big Bang: Sheldon makes this show, so if he’s the focus, it is probably going to be good. This one was a good start with him trying to keep the blonde hottie’s secret. I don’t even remember what that was, but that’s because it has something to do with Leonard and I actually prefer him in the Trouty character in My Boys.

Fanboy Fodder 9.4

Justice League of America #2 cover (Turner version)This is about two weeks in coming, but I fell behind for a while and I am now catching up. This week was a heavy DC week, for me anyway (6 books), and it was the second week in a row I bought a ton of books.

Honestly, I’m a little bummed that it took me so long to read some of these books because it was a good week featuring the second installment of the new JLA series, Ultimate Spidey #100 and Ultimates 2 #12. On to the books!

Justice League of America #2 Since I didn’t lead the week issue one came out with its cover, I’ll give the honor to the second issue which features a Michael Turner cover. Kind of odd to have Turner handle the regular cover while the regular artist gets the variant version, but that’s the way today’s comics seem to work. Brad Meltzer celebrates being #1 (at the time) on the bestsellers list with his latest novel, The... Continue reading »

Fanboy Fodder 8.4

Astonishing X-Men #16 coverI have decided that this little experiment with writing about the comics I read has been a good idea. It is definitely forcing me to evaluate what I am buying on a weekly basis. I was already trying to be good about tracking how much I spend a month on this stuff, but that wasn’t cutting it. I could justify it by acknowledging the fact that I don’t spend money on much else besides comics and CDs.

Now, I have to justify the purchase on the strength of its entertainment value. I am sure I will slowly be subtracting books, but this week, I did not. In fact, I found I just had to buy Justice League of America #1 because it was written by Brad Meltzer (of the excellent Identity Crisis) and illustrated by Ed Benes (Superman/Batman). Didn’t I recently state that I hated DC books and no more new ones for me? Well, this one is an exception that you knew would happen eventually.

I did skip Heroes for Hire #... Continue reading »

I, Crisis

Infinite Crisis #1 (Jim Lee cover)I got myself into a bit of a fracas with Jason over at BBn earlier this week — okay, this past weekend — with respect to fanboys. I seem to have found myself bashing the Momma’s basement dwellars when it comes to defending this Summer’s Superman Returns. You can read more about that over on the BBn post, but it did get me thinking on continuity in comics.

Okay, so many of you just read that last sentence and started thinking you might stop reading this particular post. Well, I don’t blame you. If you don’t really have an interest in comic books, then this post probably isn’t for you. If you have an interest in bashing fanboys, then this pos... Continue reading »
